Saturday August 29th to Saturday September 12th

Saturday August 29th

Dave Baker reported a Wood Sandpiper, 3 Hobby and a Yellow-legged Gull this afternoon. Dave also reported 3 Raven over Crooksbury Hill (outside the recording area).

Grim Styles identified the following new species for Tice's Meadow today: Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum), Golden Rod (Solidago canadensis) and Twiggy Mullein (Verbascum virgatum).

Sunday August 30th

John Hunt reported 7 Common Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper, a Wood Sandpiper, 2 Ringed Plover, 18 Teal, 7 Gadwall, 5 Shoveler, a Yellow-legged Gull, a Kingfisher and a "good number" of Swift this morning.

In addition, Graham King reported a Hobby.

Kevin Duncan identified the following new species for Tice's Meadow today: Sweet Violet (Viola odorata), Water Mint (Mentha aquatica) and Mint Leaf Beetle (Chrysolina herbacra).

Grim Styles identified the following new species for Tice's Meadow today: Sunflower (Helianthus annuus), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), White Mustard (Sinapis alba) and Twiggy Spurge (Euphorbia x pseudovirgata).

Monday August 31st

Richard Horton reported 7 Common Sandpiper, 6 Green Sandpiper, a Wood Sandpiper, a Wheatear, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 100+ Swallow and 30+ Sand Martin this morning.

Sadly, some idiot (putting it very mildly) cut down the Malus Rudolph Crab Apple tree that Dave Baker had kindly donated and planted behind Horton's Mound.


Tuesday September 1st

Carey Lodge reported a Common Sandpiper, a Green Sandpiper and a Spotted Flycatcher this afternoon - this is only the 7th recorded sighting for the site.

In addition, Richard Horton record 2 Spotted Flycatcher, a Wood Sandpiper, a Redshank and 5 Buzzard.

Dave Baker reported a Whimbrel on the islands in the Workings in the evening, which flew north at dusk - this is only the 6th recorded sighting for the site.

Wednesday September 2nd

John Hunt reported a Black-necked Grebe, 6 Common Sandpiper, 5 Green Sandpiper, a Ringed Plover, a Hobby and a Meadow Pipit (the first of the Autumn) this morning. It is not clear if this is a "new" Black-necked Grebe, or the same one that has been present on site since August 17th, but not seen since August 24th.

Thursday September 3rd

Graham King reported 2 Common Sandpiper, 2 Green Sandpiper and a Pochard.

Friday September 4th

Mark Elsoffer and Steve Minhinnick spent the afternoon on site and reported 5 Common Sandpiper, 5 Green Sandpiper, 2 Ringed Plover, 26 Lapwing, 8 Greylag Goose, 7 Gadwall, 13 Teal, 5 Shoveler and 2 Little Grebe.

Saturday September 5th

No reports.


Sunday September 6th

Kevin Duncan reported 2 Ringed Plover, 3 Pintail, 2 Wigeon, 3 Little Grebe, 55 Lapwing, 3 Snipe, a Whinchat, 2 Wheatear, a Swift and a Peregrine Falcon this morning. This is only the 9th recorded sighting of Pintail for the site.

Kevin also found 3 young Wood Mice (Apodemus sylvaticus) under a tin refugia - a new species for Tice's Meadow.

In addition, John Hunt reported 5 Common Sandpiper, 4 Green Sandpiper and 2 Meadow Pipit this morning.

Additionally in addition, Richard Seargent reported 2 Kingfisher this morning.

Also, a visiting birder called "Dougal" reported a Wood Sandpiper.

Grim Styles identified the following new species for Tice's Meadow today: Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) and Field Maple (Acer campestre).

Richard Horton reported 2 Whinchat.


Tuesday September 8th

Kevin Duncan reported 4 Common Sandpiper, 4 Green Sandpiper, 7 Snipe, 3 Pintail, 4 Egyptian Goose and 3 Little Grebe this morning.


Wednesday September 9th

Kevin Duncan reported 3 Pintail, 3 Wigeon, 2 Kestrel, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Kingfisher this morning.

Thursday September 10th

Kevin Duncan reported 3 Pintail, a Lesser Whitethroat and a Whinchat this morning. Kevin also found a Golden-ringed Dragonfly.

In addition, Richard Horton reported a Little Gull sitting on the posts in the Workings - this is only the 11th recorded sighting for the site, but the 4th this year.

Mark Elsoffer and Steve Minhinnick spent the afternoon on site and reported 3 Common Sandpiper, 3 Green Sandpiper, a Ringed Plover, 2 Snipe, 22 Lapwing, 3 Pintail, 6 Wigeon, 20 Teal, 8 Shoveler, 2 Egyptain Goose, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Kestrel and a 1st winter Little Gull.
