Next Work Party
Next Saturday's (October 8th) work party task at Tice's Meadow is preparing the
ground and erecting stock fencing in preparation for the Bells Piece
Care Home to plant their grain crops next year.
This is an exciting opportunity to create a new habitat at Tice's. We
can't wait to see the field of Quinoa, Sunflowers, Wheat, Corn etc...
full of Yellowhammers, partridges, finches and buntings next year!
The Bells Piece Care Home in Farnham is a residential centre for adults
with learning difficulties. It will be great to provide them with a
field on site to manage and develop as part of their horticultural
activities.
Liasing with local groups such as this is all part of our mission to make Tice's Meadow a community asset.
So if you have a few hours to spare next Saturday morning, we'd love to see you at Tice's. You can help make a difference.
Meet at 10am. Tools and refreshments provided. Full details on our "Events" page.
Videos
We now have a page on our website collating all the videos shot on site. If you have shot a video on site and it's not listed, please let us know.

Kevin Duncan reported 41 Greylag Goose and a Greylag x Bar-headed Goose hybrid this evening.
Whilst cutting willow on site today Richard Seargent and Richard Horton found a colony
of at least 18 Great Crested Newts! There is a historic record of this
species having been recorded on site in the past, but we are not sure of
the details or veracity of the record. It is great to have it finally confirmed
that we have Great Crested Newts on site. This is also the first confirmed sighting within the wider Blackwater Valley - another feather in the cap of Tice's Meadow.
Note:
Great Crested Newts are a priority species under the UK Biodiversity
Action Plan and are fully protected under UK law. It is an offence to
kill, injure, capture, disturb or sell them, or to damage or destroy
their habitats. Richard was obviously unaware of which species they were
when he found them and wouldn't have handled them otherwise. The location of the colony will be kept a secret
and all future site management activities will take into account their
now known presence.
